This site serves as a repository for the various stories that circulated - and continue to circulate - about Stalin.
This site is not about detailing "true" events. Instead, it is about compiling the narratives, tales, myths, discourses, jokes, and representations about Stalin, whether they emerge from an anecdote in a book or newspaper article, from a film, documentary, or novel, or else from stories passed down from family, teachers, and friends.
What did/do people think about Stalin? What stories did they pass on, and what did these tales reveal? What did these stories -- whether discussing his leadership that led to victory in World War II, or about his humble upbringing, to a joke that satirizes him -- contribute to creating the image of Stalin? The aim of this site is to store as many of these "traces of Stalin" as possible, in one convenient location, and for viewers to be able to access and easily search for various themes and topics.
